Located between the Nørrebro and Østerbro districts of greater Copenhagen, Fredens Park is a vast and narrow green space that remains largely unoccupied regardless of season. With a striking number of schools in the area, adolescents often search for places of activity, especially during the long and cold Danish months. Banen Community Center seeks to offer such a space, through three main goals.
Create a space for young adults that is inviting and natural through the use of continuity, fluid geometries, and light materials. Protect occupants from street traffic noise levels and preserve privacy through the use of channeled glass, indoor/outdoor space, and an inhabitable green roof. Finally, respect the greater context by continuing the existing park area onto the roof of the structure.
