Like the city enveloping it, the Collet-Serra School of Cinematography remains fragmented in nature and isolated in venue [San Luis Obispo, CA]. This project is a film school for college students pursuing education in the entertainment industry. The program calls for private housing for up to 50 students, graphic design studios, classrooms, a filming / sound room, 3-room cinema, café, and a variety of educational spaces. The school's design is loosely based on Jaume Collet-Serra, a film director. Collet-Serra’s plotlines are contained in setting but interfere with one another at times. An aura of mystery reveals itself slowly throughout the films. They give way to the concept of hiding greater instances in plain sight, both literally and figuratively.
Creating junctions that are hidden in plain sight facilitates curiosity. Keeping various elements divided evokes a suspenseful imagination. Once these junctions are discovered, a clear image of what lies underneath emerges.
